Llannon School ensures that pupils with additional learning needs receive effective support. This support includes differentiated work provided by the class teacher, individual sessions or small group work outside the classroom, as well as support from external agencies when needed. At Llannon School, responsibility for ALN provision is shared by everyone.

In Ysgol Llannon our ALN provision includes:

  • Differentiated work with the class teacher
  • Targeted in-class support
  • Effective short term interventions on a 1:1 basis, or within small groups
  • Well established relationships with outside agencies
  • detailed One Page Profiles (OPPs) to gain knowledge of each individual learner, discover what is important to them and how they can be supported to become the best that they can be.
  • Individual Development Plans (IDPs) – these plans contain a OPP, targeted agreed actions centred around that specific learner and names and contact details for all people and agencies involved.
  • Effective pastoral support e.g. ELSA and CHATT

We also have a designated member of staff for ELSA, Mrs Stephanie Johns, who has been fully trained by Educational Psychologists to deliver this intervention. See below for more information:

ELSA is an initiative developed and supported by educational psychologists. It recognises that children learn better and are happier in school when their emotional needs are also being met.

Most ELSA work is delivered on a one-to-one basis, although small group work is sometimes more appropriate—especially in the areas of social skills and friendship. Sessions are fun and include a range of activities such as games, role play with puppets, and therapeutic activities like mindfulness or arts and crafts. ELSA sessions take place in our dedicated ‘ELSA room’, which provides a calm and safe space where children can feel supported and nurtured.

At ELSA, our aim is to provide support for a wide range of emotional needs, including:

  • Recognising emotions
  • Anxiety
  • Self-esteem
  • Social skills
  • Friendship skills
  • Anger management
  • Loss and bereavement
